Pat Murphy - 'Murph' is one of the most successful collegiate coaches in the nation. In his 11th year as the Head Coach of the Arizona State University Sun Devils, he continues to set the standard for baseball excellence. Among his many accolades, he won the Baseball America Coach of the Year in 1998, and in 2000 he won the Pac-10 conference coach of the year. Pat began his coaching career in 1983 in Maryville, Tennessee. He made his mark, though, when he took over the University of Notre Dame program in 1988. During the seven years he coached there, his Fighting Irish won at least 45 games each season and garnered national rankings, conference titles, and NCAA tournament appearances. He took over as ASU head coach in 1995 where he continues to set records. He is 360-178-1 and has led the Devils to the NCAA Tournament in four straight years and six of the last seven. He owns an all-time 28-20 record in NCAA Tournament action as a head coach and is 19-12 in postseason play at ASU. His coaching accomplishments include becoming the youngest collegiate coach to reach 500 career victories (with 75 percent of the wins at the Division I level). We are excited and privileged to have Pat providing his coaching wisdom and insight at Baseball Player University. His dynamic personality and coaching skills will be invaluable to our program.
